CLINIC :
- Dr Andrea Sauter, specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery
- Dr. Sauter is an associated member of the Association of German Hair Surgeons (VDHC) and of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).
HAIR LOSS MEDICAL TREATMENTS :
- PRP : platelet-rich plasma is applied to the affected areas, to reduce hair loss and stimulate hair growth. A PRP can be used as a stand-alone measure or in combination with a hair transplant. Depending on the individual effectiveness, several sessions may be necessary.
- Medication : Minoxidil (applied to the scalp as a solution) is suitable for men and women and is available in pharmacies. Finasteride (trade name e.g. Propecia) is a tablet and may only be taken by men and requires a prescription in Germany. These drugs only work as long as they are used regularly. If the drug therapy is stopped, the hair will fall out again.
HAIR TRANSPLANTS :
Whether the FUE or the FUT technique is the most suitable method for you will be decided during the consultation.
Extraction of grafts :
- FUE: partial shaving (donor area), manual or motorized punch
- STRIP (FUT) : a compact strip of scalp is split into tiny hair root groups (follicular units, grafts, or FUs). The fine line-shaped scar on the back of the head can be completely covered by the remaining hair.
Implantation of grafts : all removed follicles are checked again in my practice before they are transplanted to the desired locations.
- Incisions (lateral slit, or holes)
- Reinsertion into the scalp : placement with special micro-forceps.
After the transplant :
- Small crusts form on the grafts, and disappear after about 10-14 days.
- The new hair begins to grow again after approx. 12-14 weeks.
